Overview

India’s Golden Triangle features three principal cities of Northern India: Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. Delhi is the capital of India and is the center of politics, administrative, and commercial activities. It is not such an appealing city for tourism, yet it does have some famous sites such as the Red Fort, Jame Mosque, Qutub Minar, the Lotus Temple and more. From Delhi, the journey will lead you to Jaipur. The city of Jaipur is famed as the Pink City of India. It has many palaces and forts with walls and chambers engraved with the stories of the lifestyle of great Maharajas. It displays their courage and bravery, friendship and rivalry, their queens and concubines, and so forth. On the way to Agra, you will visit the remains of the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. At Agra, visit the world-famous Taj Mahal, which is one of the eight wonders of the modern world. From Agra, you will return to Delhi for your flight to your next destination.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01~Arrival in Delhi

After completing immigration and customs formalities, meet Far & High representative at the arrival gate. After introductions, you will be transferred by our van to the hotel.

Overnight: Hotel Park
Day 02~Visit the attractions of Old and New Delhi

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll have an orientation meeting and then set out to tour the ancient city.

We begin from the Humayun’s Tomb-a massive octagonal edifice-built by the Emperor Humayun's Begum in his honor. The design of the tomb- a superb example of early Mughal architecture, greatly influenced on Shah Jahan, who later designed and built the Taj Mahal in a similar style. The entrance to the tomb is through a succession of formal gardens, which are in the process of being restored to the classic Persian style.

We will also visit Qutub Minar-an impressive red sandstone tower inscribed with Islamic writings. It was built to commemorate the defeat of local rulers of Delhi by the Muslim general Qutb-ud-din-Aibak, at the end of the twelfth century. We will then drive to Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque). It is the largest mosque in India and a notable example of Delhi’s distinctive Indo-Islamic architecture. Another highlight of our day will be a bicycle-rickshaw ride from this great mosque through the bustling and colorful market lanes of Chandni Chowk to the Red Fort.

We’ll explore other parts of Old Delhi as well as the formal government buildings of “new” Delhi, constructed by the British in the 1920s. Nearby, in the parkland of Raj Ghat, we’ll have time to visit the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi and look at some of the local bird life. We should find Hoopoe, Common Mynah, House Crow, and Rose-collared Parrot as well as egrets and other waders in ponds.

Day 03~Agra-the home to the Taj Mahal

After breakfast, we drive to Agra (approx. 131miles/ 4 ½ hrs.).

Upon arrival, check in the hotel and later proceed for sightseeing.

We first visit Agra Fort- the 16th-century Mughal citadel known as the Red Fort of Agra. It was built by the Emperor Shah Jahan who also built the Taj Mahal and Delhi's Red Fort. Recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, Agra Fort is a citadel of the Mughal era that has witnessed centuries slip by but still stands gloriously on the bank of River Yamuna.

Towards dusk, we visit the Mehtab Bagh (also called Moonlight Garden) which is a little known place for viewing Taj Mahal during the sunset time. The garden lies opposite of Taj Mahal on the northern bank of Yamuna River whereas Taj Mahal stands in the southern side. Most travelers visit Taj Mahal from the main gate at the south side. Enjoy the views of Taj Mahal in tranquil surroundings with no rush.

Overnight: Grand Imperial
Meals : Breakfast
Day 04: Sunrise tour of Taj Mahal. Late morning, travel to Jaipur

After breakfast, proceed to Jaipur (approx. 153 miles / 5 ½ hrs. drive) en-route visiting Fatehpur Sikri.

We get up before dawn for a sunrise tour of Taj Mahal. It's a fantastic experience to see the iconic monument bathed in the morning sunshine! Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, is a spectacular monument built to represent eternal love.

We return to our hotel for breakfast, and soon we head out to Jaipur. About 25 miles from Agra, we stop to visit the Fatehpur Sikri- a UNESCO recognized world heritage site. Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned capital of Emperor Akbar, illustrates the fusion of Hindu and Muslim architectures.

About 56 miles before Jaipur, we take 12 miles detour of Chand Baori, which is an ancient step well, built in between 800 and 900 A.D. It's a baroque architecture designed and structured as a water reservoir to supply water to the citizens of dry and arid Rajasthan.

Overnight: Alsisar Haveli
Meals : Breakfast
Day 05~Explore the forts, palaces and markets of Jaipur

After breakfast, we set out to explore the attractions of Jaipur- the capital of Rajasthan State. Jaipur is also called the Pink City. Do you know why? The king of Rajasthan, in a short notice, ordered a fresh coat of paint for Jaipur to welcome the Prince of Wales visiting India in 1905-6, but the contractor did not have any other color in stock enough but pink. So, the entire city was painted pink which has been Jaipur's tradition till today!

We first drive 7 miles on Jaipur- Delhi highway outside the city to visit Amer Fort that lies atop Aravali Hills. From the parking, we take an elephant ride up the hill (subject to availability and alternatively by Jeep). On the return, we will take the local shared jeep.

Amber Fort, also called Amer Fort, was built in the 16th century and is one of the most excellent examples of the combination of Hindu Rajput and Mughal Muslim architectures. The fort, made in red sandstone and white marble, tells the glory of the fierce Kachawaha Dynasty that ruled over the region from 12th to the 18th century. The interior wall of the palace exhibits vivid painting scenes with carvings, precious stones, and mirror settings. The fort has heavily structured high walls to protect the residents from the warring enemies.

Now, we retrace our drive to the Jaipur city and visit Hawa Mahal- one of the most photographed architectures of Jaipur. The peculiarity of the palace is the high screen wall facing to the street from where the women of the royal family could observe the street activities without being seen from the outsiders!

Next, we move on to the City Palace, which is another blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. The royal family still occupies part of the palace, and we have access only to the section that has a museum. The museum has an extensive collection of costumes, woodwork, brassware, jewelry, and pottery. Nearby is the Jantar Mantar observatory, build in the 18th century, it is a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments.

The afternoon is free for your interests. Jaipur is shopper's paradise and has the world famous traditional jewelry designed stylishly.
