An introductory trip of Myanmar, offering pagodas, temples, rivers, archeological wonders, and vibrant markets of the three most-visited cities of Myanmar: Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, and Inle Lake.

We fly from Bangkok to Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar, and explore its archeological and architectural wonders. From Yangon, we take a flight to Bagan, an enchanting town with thousands of massive temples and stupas scattered along the bank of Irrawaddy River. We explore the gigantic ruins and some outlying villages.

Another short flight brings us to Mandalay, where we visit the ancient city of Amarapura. We will visit its ancient monasteries and temples, and we will also have the opportunity to hike a hill and enjoy the sunset view. From Mandalay, our next destination is Inle Lake in the north. Here we explore the life in the islands and the lakeshores. We take a return flight to Yangon and, after a night stop there, we will fly back to Bangkok.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 Flight from Bangkok to Yangon

You can book your flight to Yangon on your own, or ask us for help. Bangkok is the best international gateway city for flights to Myanmar. Upon arrival at Mingaladon airport of Yangon (previously known as Rangoon), we are met by our local guide and transferred to our hotel. After some rest in the hotel, we can begin to explore this 2,500-year-old capital city of Myanmar.

It is a fascinating mix of the scenes from a bygone era and the modern pulse of bustling streets, serene temples, and impressive colonial edifices. We begin from the gilded Sule Pagoda and the impressive Karaweik Hall on the Royal Lake. We follow these with a visit to the famous Shwedagon Pagoda, which dominates the skyline of the city. This masterpiece houses an intricate complex of smaller pagodas and Buddha images.

Day 02 Flight from Yangon to Bagan

After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our flight to Bagan. Upon arrival at Bagan airport, our local guide meets us and takes us to our hotel. Soon we set out to explore the archeological wonders of Bagan. It flourished from the 11th through the 13th century, and during those 200 years, there are thousands of magnificent stupas and temples constructed. Many of them are still standing, in all their glory, along the banks of Irrawaddy River.

We visit the vibrant market of Nyaung U before driving to the archaeological zone to visit the temples and pagodas of Shwezigon, Gubyaukgyi, Htilominlo, Ananda, Thatbyinnyu Sulamani, Dhammyangyi, all of which speak of their glorious past. In the evening, we enjoy the spectacular sunset from the terrace of Myaukguni Temple and conclude our extraordinary day.

The spectacular teak bridge of U Bein and the famous Mahaganda Monastery are some of the major attractions in Amarapura. We pass by the serene countryside on our way to Mandalay Township. This delightful town has plenty to offer to the visitors; Mahamuni Pagoda, the fabulous Kuthodaw Pagoda, often called “the world's largest book," and the wooden monastery of Shwenandaw Kyaung, to name a few. Later in the day, we hike Mandalay Hill for a beautiful, panoramic sunset view.

The lake is surrounded by high hills from all sides, with 17 villages on the lakeshores and in the islands. Intha ethnic people mostly inhabit the villages. We take the boating trip and enjoy the spectacular scenery and observe the skilled fisherman using their leg-rowing technique to propel themselves around the lake. We visit the floating gardens, a floating market, and an Intha village around the lake. Please, note that markets do not take place on full moon days. We will also visit the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda and the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery.

Or the National Museum with its lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Burmese culture. We can also take a stroll on our own in Bogyoke Market, formerly known as Scott’s Market. Best time to Travel

The best time to travel to Myanmar is from November through February. The weather is wonderfully cold both during the day and at night. You will enjoy beautiful sunny days. The country is vibrant green right after the long monsoon rains. The chances of rain are very slim or none. October and March are also subtle but slightly warmer. The hottest months are April and May, temperature exceeding 100 °F, particularly the areas of Bagan and May and also the humidity is very high. The monsoon begins from mid-May or early June and lasts through early summer. During monsoon time, it's a bit cooler, but the roads become impassable.

Passport, Visa and Travel Documents

You will need to apply for Myanmar Visa beforehand from the nearest Myanmar Embassy. Remaining validity on your passport must be six months on the last date of the tour. And make sure you have enough blank pages for visa stickers, arrival, and departure seals.

Accommodation will be in mid-range to first-class hotels where choices are available and the best available in the remote areas with limited options. All the hotels do provide an en suite bathroom with running hot and cold water.

Your tour is escorted by English speaking local Guides whom you will meet at the airport upon arrival. Guide and driver are not the same people. And guides in different cities will be different persons, especially when you are taking flight from one city to another.

Depending on the group size, we use Japanese or Korean made Sedan Cars, SUV, Minivan, or coach. Our vehicles are clean, well maintained, and drivers are trained to drive western travelers.

Travel Protection Plan

While we plan and do our best to make your trip smooth and seamless, there may be chances of unforeseen events and conditions such as illness, accident, inclement weather, and flight cancellation or missed connection or loss of baggage, etc. It may cause interruption or delay or total cancellation of your trip, putting your hard-earned travel investment in jeopardy. It’s also possible that you may need medical assistance, emergency evacuation, or medical transportation when you get ill or involve in an accident when you are traveling in remote areas. Far & High’s tour cost does not cover any of these expenses or losses. We strongly recommend that you should protect yourself and your travel investment against those unfavorable conditions.
